About the Kigali Car Free Day group ride

Kigali Car Free Day is an open-streets program in Kigali, Rwanda: streets closed to cars and open to bikes. It runs first Sunday and Third Sunday of the month from 7:00 am local time.

Twice a month the City of Kigali closes some main roads to cars on a Sunday morning, and the streets fill with runners, cyclists, families and aerobics groups. It has run since 2016. There is no set route or pace; ride the closed roads and join whatever is on at your district's site.

Checked Oct 1, 2026 against source 1, source 2, source 3, source 4, source 5. Schedules change. Confirm with the host before you go.

I do the miles. You decide who they’re for.

In 2027 I ride 10,000 miles, all on the bike, every one of them for queer communities. You pledge a few cents a mile and pick which org it goes to. It starts January 1.
