- Ten or fifteen minutes before the start time. Tell whoever's leading that you're new.
- Pace
- The easiest pace the host lists is 12–14 mph: steady — you'll breathe hard on the hills. It splits into pace groups. Pick the slowest one your first time; you can move up next week.

The city's largest recreational club runs member-led rides every weekend to Westchester, Connecticut, Long Island and across the Hudson. Three levels. C rides and most B rides are no-drop; A rides are not. Helmets required, no exceptions.
