- a helmet, front and rear lights (it's a dark-hours ride), water, a spare tube or patch kit, a way to pay for the stop.
- Arrive
- Ten or fifteen minutes before 5:30 pm. Tell whoever's leading that you're new.
- Pace
- The easiest pace the host lists is 10–12 mph: you can talk the whole way. It's no-drop: if you fall off the back, someone waits. That's the point of a group ride.
