a helmet, front and rear lights (it's a dark-hours ride), water, a spare tube or patch kit, a way to pay for the stop.
Arrive
Ten or fifteen minutes before 6:00 pm. Tell whoever's leading that you're new.
Pace
Four groups of varying speed; pick one you can hang with. It's a drop ride: if you can't hold the pace, you'll finish alone. Fine if you know your speed. Not a first ride.
